STAGE 1 - BRAKE PAD MATERIAL UPGRADE

The initial braking upgrade for the Mitsubishi Evo must be to replace the factory brake pads for an uprated material designed to work at higher temperatures to support harder braking forces. The first component to begin to fail (in this case 'fade') is the original brake pads.

CPR have tried and tested many pad materials from various manufacturers' from around the world, in street and track application, and would like to offer a select range of pads to support your requirements such as;

  • Good Initial Bite when cold for street applications
  • Low Noise/Squeal and Dust on street applications
  • Wide range of operaturing temperatures on all Streets/Sports applications
  • Matched to O.E or Aftermarket Discs to ensure brake pads do not warp discs
  • Good pedal feel with progressive increase in braking force

Upgrading the material and construction of the brake disc assembly and rotor is required when considering an uprated brake pad, where the higher working temperatures of the new pad can cause the O.E. disc to superheat and distort. This rapid heating (and subsequent rapid cooling) may permanently distort your rotor and cause brake judder. Brake Judder/Warp can be experienced very early on during fast road driving at high hp levels, and certainly even sooner on track. The O.E Discs are cast and of poor quality, and it is highly recommended that they are swapped for any Track Day, or when the discs begin to show signs of grooving.

The next stage in upgrading the braking system is to replace the factory rubber brake lines, with an uprated metal braided brake hose. CPR found that under heavy braking in testing, on the street and track, that the factory rubber lines swelled up under heavy pedal force causing a spongy/unassuring pedal feel. Swapping to a high quality braided metal brake line kit from CPR, will give a rock hard pedal feel, where the lines are more rigid and do not swell under even the heaviest of braking. High quality fittings are used throughout to avoid corrosion, we throughly recommend this inexpensive brake upgrade, even for mildly tuned street cars.

We also recommend a motorsport orientated Brake Fluid whilst exchanging the brake lines. The factory fluid in the GTR has a lower boiling point, and a result, on heavy braking at the track, the heat from discs & calipers will superheat the brake fluid, causing it in cases to boil. The boiling of the fluid can create steam if there is a high water content in the fluid, and as a result the braking force cannot be applied to the pads, causing the brake pedal to go to the floor under heavy braking. To help to reduce the risk of this occuring, please select a high quality Racing Brake Fluid, such as Millers 300+ Racing Brake Fluid which is available at our store.

STAGE 3 - FAST ROAD 6 POT CALIPER AND DISC UPGRADE KIT

    Mitsubishi Evo 5-9 - AP RACING - CP7040 6 POT FRONT CALIPER KIT - £1500.00+VAT

  • Disc Size: 356mm (or 362mm Disc for Entry Level Track)
  • 7040 Fast Road Caliper
  • Caliper in Black or Red ( + £30.00)
  • 18" Wheel required
  • Pad is Ferodo DS2500
  • Recommend ensuring rear pad is Ferodo DS2500 and Braided Metal Brake Line fitted
  • Fitting Service available (+3 hours)

Our recommendation for Fast Road and Entry Level Trackday is the AP Racing 7040 6 Pot Caliper Kit for Mitsubishi Evo 5-9.

The larger AP Caliper massively improves the Stock Brembo Caliper, with stronger force supported by the bigger caliper size and additional pistons. The larger caliper will be able to dissipate more heat, therefore harder/later braking can be achieved.

Disc Option is 356 or 362mm based on 18" Diameter, where we recommend a 356mm Disc for Street (used with uprated pad and line setup for rear of car) and 362mm if used more so on Track and braking modifications are considered for the rear of the car also, via AP Racing 4 Pot Rear Caliper Kit.

The 7040 Caliper is often refered to as the 'Road-Caliper' Kit, as it is a mass-manufactured unit by AP Racing, for O.E Applications, and is therefore more suited to Road Application, where brake pad swapping is infrequent, with dust seals suited to road and entry level track use

If the car is used predominantly at the track at high HP levels, where pads swaps are frequent, and very high temperatures are reached/high temp pads are used, then it is our recommendation that the owner looks at Stage 4 - AP CP5555 6 Pot Kit, where the CP5555 Motorsport Caliper is used with more Motorsport orientated design.

  • STAGE 4 - TRACK 6 POT FRONT / 4 POT REAR CALIPER AND DISC UPGRADE KIT

    Mitsubishi Evo 5-9 - AP RACING - C5555 6 POT FRONT CALIPER KIT - £1500.00+VAT

  • Disc Size: 362mm Disc
  • 5555 Motorsport Caliper
  • Caliper in Black or Red ( + £30.00)
  • 18" Wheel required
  • Pad is Ferodo DS3000
  • Fitting Service available (+3 hours)

    Mitsubishi Evo 5-9 - AP RACING - CP5108 4 POT REAR CALIPER KIT - £ 990.00+VAT

  • Uses original discs, recommend a high quality rear disc - DBA 4000 Series or similar
  • Recommend ensuring rear pad is Ferodo DS2500 and Braided Metal Brake Line fitted
  • Fitting Service available (+1 hours)

For High HP Power Upgrades (500hp+) for Very Fast Road Use and Trackday's, we recommend the Stage 4 Brake Upgrade Kit, with the upgrade to the AP Racing CP5555 6 Pot Front Brake Kit, and CP5108 4 Pot Rear Brake Kit, where braking force is improved further, larger more efficient brake calipers are used front and rear, and more heat dissapation can occur, to allow the driver to brake harder, later and for longer sessions out on track.
The CP5555 Caliper is uprated over the Road going version Caliper as in Stage 3 CP7040, where the manufacturing process and design of the caliper differs, with higher temp rated dust seals featured on the Motorsport Version, making it a more ideal Caliper for predominant track use.

CPR recommend Front and Rear Kit is fitted to ensure even braking bias between front and rear wheels. We have found that by only upgrading the front kit to CP5555 Kit in track application, that the braking bias is shifted to far to the front, making the car overwork the front brakes and tyres, and as a result, the car will begin to suffer with understeer characteristics.
